🌍 Several organisations and institutions, notably in Finland and the Netherlands, temporarily took some of their sites offline. The cause was two critical vulnerabilities in PHP, a programming language used by many websites. Present for more than 10 years, these vulnerabilities could allow attackers to access sensitive data or take control of servers. PHP is used by about 70% of sites for which the server-side language is known, which gives an idea of the scale of the problem.
🤖 What is notable is that artificial intelligence played an important role in the discovery of these flaws, thanks in particular to work by researchers using models from OpenAI and Google. This shows how AI can become a key tool in cybersecurity, both to detect vulnerabilities and to facilitate their exploitation. In light of these risks, authorities recommend updating affected systems promptly.
