💻 Advances in quantum computing could make it possible, between 2030 and 2040, to break the encryption systems that today protect our online communications. EPFL is therefore calling for action without delay: data intercepted now could be decrypted later thanks to far more powerful machines. This threat particularly concerns sensitive information that needs to remain confidential for years.

🛡️ To address it, the polytechnic school highlights several priorities: combining current protections with new quantum-resistant algorithms, rapidly modernising network infrastructures and securing embedded systems designed to last for several decades.

✨ Switzerland already has certain resources at its disposal, such as protected networks that can be deployed quickly and chips capable of generating highly reliable computational randomness.
